9-11am
Give yourself the gift of deep relaxation and reflection to begin the new year. Enjoy gentle yoga and
the deep relaxation practice of yoga nidra through this winter season. Class is held at Maine Audubon's Gilsland Farm where
you can enjoy Maine Audubon's heated floor as you settle into the peace of the winter season stretching the body and
stilling the mind. Winter's Deep Peace requires no prior yoga experience, and in fact are great for beginners. If you
who have already been attending classes or keeping a regular practice, I invite you to flow with the spirit of new beginnings
and enjoy a "beginners mind" as we move in a gentle asana flow. Deep Peace Yoga combines a full gentle
yoga preactice with an extended yoga nidra session to create a restful and spacious morning to reconnect with self
and strengthen your intentions for the new year.
Yoga
Nidra is a state of conscious Deep Sleep. In the state of Deep Sleep,
the body and mind relax and enter a place of deep healing. Specifically, the sympathetic nervous system, which keeps us in
a state of flght or flight and is "on" most of our waking and some of our sleeping hours, quiets, allowing
the parasympathetic nervous system to become dominant. This relaxation state is deeply healing and allows us to plant and
nurture seeds for continued health.
In each Deep Peace yoga session, we will practice the combination of gentle yoga and deep breathing to actively relax
the body and mind followed by an extended yoga nidra session to engage this deep healing space where new year’s intentions
can been nurtured and strengthened.
